What is College Readiness?

College Readiness means being aware of one’s options and having a clear understanding of what it takes to make informed decisions about one’s choices.

College Readiness means placing one’s self in the position to be eligible to apply to and be accepted into a college of choice. This includes enrolling and performing well in all core academic high school classes.

College Readiness means having an overall preparation to ensure enrollment in college level classes and avoiding remedial courses.

According to the Florida Department of Education, “Students are college ready when they have the knowledge, skills and academic preparation needed to enroll and succeed in introductory college credit-bearing courses within an associate or bachelor level degree, without the need for remedial courses” (www.fldoe.org). Those same skills are needed to enter the workforce and ensure competitive wages and opportunities for advancement. Additionally, CRAMS Consulting firmly believes that college readiness also means building an academic infrastructure and survival skills necessary for successful college completion.
